Deni Preston originally from San Diego, California is a Group Fitness Expert for Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University located in Provo, Utah. She received her University education from Brigham Young University where she studied dance education. She has received multiple fitness certifications through ACE (American Council on Exercise,) FiTour Pilates, and has been a member of IDEA (International Dance Exercise Association) since 1988. She continually attends workshops in the fitness world throughout her career to improve her knowledge and skill level. She has had training from the likes of fitness experts Baron Baptiste, Ana Forrest, John Friend, PJ O’Clair, Jay Blahnik, Rob Glich, Dana Baptiste, and many others.
Prior to the teaching at the University scene she owned her own business in American Fork, Utah for 6 1/2 years (1982-1988) teaching a fitness program called DancErgetics Inc. Since then she has instructed at BYU in Health and Human Performance Services and acted as the assistant coordinator to the college of fitness instructors. In 1996 she added the challenge of teaching additional fitness classes for UVU in the PE/Health department, developing a curriculum that includes Power Yoga, Power Tone, and Pilates; she coordinates approximately twelve instructors.
From her wide fitness experience and expertise, she has written chapters in Hilda Fronske’s Teaching Skills For Sport Skills, 3rd and 4th editions, contributed to helping secondary students. Her most recent accomplishment includes hosting BYU Television’s “Total Body Workout,” a fitness program that appears Monday-Friday at 5 am and 10 am MST on BYU TV and On Demand cable network television.
Deni has been married to Mike Preston, a former BYU football player (1969-73), since 1972. They have 4 children and 8 rand children. Her happiest moments are spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and of course her students.
